LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A late night fire destroyed the home of a Petal Police Officer who lives in Lamar County.

Lamar County Volunteer firefighters received the call just before midnight Saturday of a fully-involved house fire on Griffith Road.

"When we got on scene the house was fully engulfed in fire and it had already vented through the roof and the carport had collapsed," said Northeast Lamar Fire Chief Kyle Hill.

According to Petal Police Chief Leonard Fuller, the home belonged to one of his officers and the department was putting together gift cards and thing for their family Sunday morning.

"The people were at home at the time of the fire and they were able to make it out without any injures," said Hill. "The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation."
