HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A woman is dead and Hattiesburg Police are conducting a death investigation to determine the cause of death. 

The victim, identified as Larita Dewberry, 26, was found in her vehicle at 3901 West 4th Street suffering from a gunshot wound. 

"It appears that she suffered from a gunshot wound, but we are sending the body to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy," said Forrest County Deputy Coroner Jonathan Nobles.

Hattiesburg police were called to the scene on West 4th Street just after 10 p.m. to a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. 

"Right now it is labeled as a death investigation," said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler. 

Officers and the Hattiesburg Crime Scene Unit worked the scene where the vehicle was backed into a parking spot on 4th Street.
