PHOENIX, AZ - The University of Southern Mississippi is sponsoring an annual conference next week that focuses on improving safety and security at sports venues around the country.
USM's seventh National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition begins Tuesday in Phoenix, Arizona.
It will bring together 500 law enforcement officials, stadium managers and security professionals for three days of discussions on topics like search procedures and drone regulations.
The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) is hosting the event.
"We're at a point now where we're starting to refine best practices," said Lou Marciani, director of NCS4. "We break our best practices into four different components, (including) intercollegiate athletics, interscholastic athletics, marathons and professional (sports)."
The theme for this year's conference is Achieving the Gold Standard.
It ends July 14.
