HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Area Development Partnership held its annual appreciation luncheon Friday.
Nearly 300 folks were in attendance at Southern Oaks, and the luncheon was about honoring the 850 plus members, ranging from Mom and Pop shops to multi-national corporations.
Awards were given out to individuals and businesses for service and spirit, as well as a Newcomer award given for dedication and engagement.
The keynote speaker was C-SPIRE President and CEO Hu Meena, who spoke about the company's future as an internet provider and the cellular service industry.
"We're about helping local companies grow and prosper, and recruiting new companies from around the world," ADP President Chad Newell said. "Our unemployment rate is down to 4.6%. We've had 1600 net new jobs in the last 12 months. That's a 2.6% increase in our employment base, which leads the state of Mississippi."
Newell also said that he believes that the local economy is robust and flourishing.
