Two University of Southern Mississippi football players received some national love today.
Senior quarterback Nick Mullens and junior running back Ito Smith were selected to the Maxwell Award watch list.
The Maxwell award is given to the best college football player in the nation every year. The list was comprised of 90 players.
Mullens is coming off a stellar 2015 campaign that saw him throw for a school record 4,476 yards. He also set program marks with 38 touchdowns, 331 completions, a 155.16 passing efficiency rate and 4,384 yards of total offense.
Smith led the Golden Eagles in rushing with 1,128 yards along with 10 scores. He added 49 receptions for 515 yards.
Maxwell award semifinalists will be announced October 31. This list will be trimmed to a final three on November 21, with the winner being announced December 8.
Christian Food Mission is set to debut their new facility and location Thursday during a ribbon cutting and open house. Jones County Chamber of Commerce Prior to moving to 2507 Moose Drive, the building sat at 506 Chantilly Street.
