JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A young man drowned Saturday while swimming at a popular swimming hole in Jones County.

According to authorities, three men and a woman, all in their early 20s, were swimming Saturday afternoon. One man climbed on top of a tree and jumped into the water. He came up, but went under again and his friends were unable to pull him out. This happened at about 4:50 p.m.

Two hours later, the Jones County dive team located his body and retrieved it and he was pronounced dead.

The man's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The swimming hole is located on private property off Boney Road in Soso.

It is described as being eight feet deep and roughly 40 feet in diameter.
