(The following notes were submitted to WDAM7 from the Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg. Visit www.hattiesburgjuniorauxiliary.org for more details.)
\ ABBIE ROGERS CIVITAN CAMP: Founded in 1961, Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp is a local, non-profit, organization operated by an all-volunteer staff that allows children with significant disabilities to enjoy residential camping experiences.
\ ROCK-A-BYE: Rock-a-Bye Moms allows JA members to care for young children with disabilities through the night during the week of Civitan Camp. Each child at Civitan Camp is assigned a counselor during the day, and at night, JA members take over the role of caregiving so counselors can rest. Junior Auxiliary members will donate their time between 8PM - 7AM from Sunday, July 10th through Thursday, July 14th.
\ CIVITAN CAMP CARNIVAL: Held on the last day of Civitan Camp, Camp Carnival was designed to provide a carnival-themed atmosphere with fun games and interactive activities for children attending Civitan Camp. The committee is made up of 19 JA women; they plan the activities and interact with the children at the carnival until their parents arrive to pick them up from summer camp.
\ COMMUNITY SUPPORT: The Junior Auxiliary's annual Charity Ball raises the funds needed to pay for projects like Rock-a- Bye and Civitan Camp Carnival. JA could not support projects like these without generosity and support in and around Hattiesburg. Our community service projects are funded solely through donations and our annual fundraiser, Charity Ball. This year's Charity Ball will take place Saturday, November 12, 2016 at The Lake Terrace Convention Center.
