PINE BELT (WDAM) - On Monday, our nation will celebrate Independence Day.
July 4th became a federal holiday in 1933. This year marks the 240th American celebration of our Independence Day.
Typically, we celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks, parades, concerts, and barbecues. In 1776, the United States had 2.5 million residents appreciating their new-found and hard-fought freedom.
Today, we have 316 million people who have the opportunity to celebrate July 4th in any way they wish.
While the United States is not perfect, it's citizens have much for which to be thankful as residents of a free country.
Consider This: Let's celebrate this 4th of July by putting aside differences long enough to embrace our love for one another and this great country.
Happy 4th of July.
