JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Lamar County man is behind bars after being arrested for kidnapping a juvenile from Jones County.

Christopher Wright, 29 of Hattiesburg, was charged with kidnapping and made his initial appearance in court Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. A judge set his bond at $50,000.

On Monday, Jones County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence for a report of a missing 14-year-old girl.

According to the press release, the juvenile’s guardian said she believed the girl got into a car that had been driving through the area, and a witness claimed a man was driving the vehicle.

Family members reported to the sheriff’s department that they found a person of interest that matched the description of the man in the vehicle.

Wright was identified from the juvenile’s Facebook account, and soon after, deputies investigated Wright’s place of employment. At the business, deputies found the vehicle matching the description from the witness, and the vehicle information matched Wright’s identity.

According to the press release, a JCSD investigator contacted Wright by phone and confronted him about the missing girl.

Wright said the juvenile was at his home in Lamar Co., but Lamar County officials soon found out that the girl was not at the address given by Wright.

Wright notified the JCSD investigator again and said the juvenile was with him and asked where to take her. He brought her to the sheriff’s department, and deputies arrested him for kidnapping.

During an interview, he confessed that he took the girl from her home in Jones County and took her to his home in Lamar County, according to the press release. He also said the girl spent the night with him.
