LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A pair of lightning strikes in Lamar County damaged two houses Tuesday evening.
Just after 6 p.m., Lamar County volunteer firefighters responded to a house fire at 205 Burnt Bridge Road.
According to fire officials, a tree was struck by lightning and it extended to the home and started a fire.
As firefighters were battling that house fire, just north, in the Bent Creek Subdivision at 34 Den Stone Road another house fire was started by a lightning strike.
"Lightning hit a tree next to the house, and then ran down the electrical line into the house and into the electrical system," said Central Lamar County Volunteer Fire Chief Reggie Ridgeway. "They were storing furniture and stuff inside the garage and it caught fire, we were able to keep it confined to the garage."
No one was injured in either of the house fires.
