SANDERSVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Sunday night around 11 p.m. units from Sandersville Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of a one vehicle accident on Sandersville Heidelburg Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavily damaged white Ford Super Duty work truck lodged against a treeline with a conscious, but injured male driver.
According to a news release from The Jones County Fire Council, the truck was heading towards Sandersville on Sandersville Heidelburg Road when the truck left the roadway after rounding a curve, went up a small embankment, took out several feet of barbed wire fence, hit a tree, and then came to a halt facing the treeline.
The force of the impact caused the top section of the tree to snap completely in half and fall to the ground.
The driver appeared to have sustained moderate to severe injuries and was transported by EMServ ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.
The cause of the accident is unknown.
Rescue personnel on scene included Sandersville and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Sandersville Police Department and Jasper County Sheriff's Department, according to the news release.
Fire apparatus on scene included Sandersville Rescue and Sandersville Fire Chief 1. Several units also arrived in their personal vehicles.
