1 dead after shooting in Mugshots parking lot

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A male victim involved in a Sunday afternoon shooting in the Hub City has died from his injuries. 

The victim has been identified as Corey Husband, 20, of Hattiesburg.

According to Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem, the victim died at Forrest General Hospital from multiple gunshot wounds. 

Klem said, "The body will also be sent to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy."

Mugshot owner Ron Sevell said he was shocked when he heard the news.

"I mean we are a family friendly restaurant, been in Hattiesburg for 13 years and never expected anything like this," said Sevell.

Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler said, "The victim does not appear to have been at the restaurant at anytime nor connected to it either."

HPD was on scene of a shooting at Mugshots restaurant just after 3 p.m. 

Police responded to the shooting scene in the parking lot of the restaurant a 204 North 40th Avenue.

People who lived in the apartment complex across the street like Alexis Fizer said this activity is unusual in the neighborhood.

“I stay not even 4.3 feet away and it was kind of too much," said Fizer. "I have small children and I take care of my uncle who is also disabled so it was very shocking to me.”

One person was taken from the scene to Forrest General Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

At this time, no suspect is in custody.

    The Forrest County Board of Supervisors considered bids to replace a bridge during their Monday meeting.  Bids were taken into consideration to replace a bridge near Hattiesburg High School on North 12th Avenue near Conti Street. A third-party inspection was made on the bridge just south of the high school and it was determined that it needed to be replaced due to having wood pilings for support.
