JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Laurel man is behind bars after he physically assaulted an elderly woman and held her against her will on multiple occasions.

On Friday, Jones County deputies were dispatched to a Windsor Court residence for a domestic dispute call, according to a JCSD press release.

The victim, 68, told the deputy that William Jerry Sims, 65, was her longtime boyfriend and that he physically assaulted her.

But when the deputy noticed victim’s injuries, Sims said she had fallen on a table, according to the press release.

The victim stated that she had been punched in the face multiple times just the day before, and she had a knot on her head, severe bruising to her face and was bleeding from her mouth and cheek areas.

Soon after, she was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries.

When deputies attempted to take Sims into custody, he was belligerent and would not follow orders. Finally, deputies took Sims into custody and took him to the Jones County Adult Detention Center.

On Monday, as the victim was recovering from her injuries, she reported to the sheriff’s department that Sims had, multiple times, locked her inside of a closet and kept her from drinking, eating or using the bathroom, according to a JCSD press release. The victim also said she had to stand for hours. Sims also withheld the victim from going to her heart doctor and would not let her take baths. On one occasion, he even tied the victim up in the bathroom with a cord, put a cloth over her mouth and whipped her with a belt.

When Sims was interviewed about the matter, Sims said he used the strategy as a disciplinary measure or a “time out” for the victim.

Sims was charged with kidnapping, vulnerable person, abuse or neglect of, and domestic violence-aggravated assault, which are all felonies. Sims was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and resisting arrests.

Sims made his initial appearance in court Wednesday, and Judge Billie Graham set his bond at $25,000 per felony charge, which is a total of $75,000, according to a Jones County Sheriff’s Department press release.

Judge Graham also issued a No Contact order.
