AIDS Services Coalition hosts national HIV testing awareness event

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from the Aids Services Coalition 

In commemoration of National HIV Testing Awareness 2016, the AIDS Services Coalition will host an event on Saturday, June 25th at the First Tee Community Center at Vernon Dahmer Park

11:00 AM-3:00 PM that includes food, HIV testing… and door prizes. One lucky participant will win a flat screen TV and others will received gift cards totaling over $100!

June 27, 2016 is National HIV Testing Day and serves as a reminder to get the facts, get tested and get involved to take care of yourself and your partners. There are an estimated 1.2 million people in the United States who are living with HIV. One in eight people have HIV and do not know it. In Mississippi, there are over 10,000 persons living with HIV infection, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health With early diagnosis, individuals can be placed in treatment and care resulting in better health outcomes. Forrest County is 2nd in the state in the rate on new HIV infections.
