HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

The University of Southern Mississippi continues to receive recognition for its commitment to assist military service members and their families with inclusion among the Top 50 Military Friendly® Schools for Hospitality as designated by Victory Media Inc.

The list was composed using calculations to determine the best of the best across 10 different scoring categories. The top 50 honorees include: private colleges and universities, public college and universities, community colleges, private vocational and technical schools, graduate programs, and online colleges and universities.

“At Southern Miss we continue to strive for excellence in meeting the needs of our military veterans, service members and their caring families,” said Maj. Gen. Jeff Hammond (U.S Army, ret.), who serves as director of the University’s Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families. “National recognition as a “Top 50 Military Friendly School for Hospitality” reflects a campus environment (both in Hattiesburg and on the Gulf Coast) where we make it of great importance to receive and treat our military students in a warm, friendly, and generous way.

Add Hammond: “Such recognition as a leading hospitality campus reveals the nature of our University in that we treat all people with special care, dignity and respect.”

Last December, Southern Miss earned distinction as a Military Friendly® school, and earlier this year Victory Media Inc., named Southern Miss to its listing of the Top 50 colleges and universities in the United States with outstanding diversified services for veterans.
