PINE BELT (WDAM) -

This is an editorial by WDAM General Manager Jama Killingsworth.

The nation is still in shock from the recent mass shooting in Orlando – the worst mass shooting in American history.

Forty-nine lives were lost and another 53 people were injured.

Our community joins the entire nation in mourning this tragedy.

While there was once a time when our friendly, southern community could say, “Such a tragedy could never happen here, or near us,” we can no longer believe that.

No city, community, or group of people is safe from such a senseless loss of life.

America has always been known by the world as a wonderful melting-pot of people and cultures.

The victims of the Orlando shooting represented such diversity.

While the act committed was a terrorist attack, it was also a heinous hate crime on all mankind.

Forty-nine lives cut short....and lost.... Our thoughts and prayers go out to each of the victims and their families who are suffering.

Consider this: Just as there is no place for terrorism in our world, there is no place for hatred and senseless acts of violence.
