JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - West Jones High School held a press conference Tuesday to announce the naming of its new baseball head coach.
Trey Sutton is a former Southern Miss scholar athlete.
West Jones was Sutton's high school alma mater, where he graduated third in his class in 2004.
Sutton was a three-time all conference performer, C-USA baseball student athlete of the year, as well as ESPN Academic All-American in 2007.
He was elected baseball team captain in 2008 and graduated from USM that same year.
Sutton holds a bachelor's and master's degree in business administration from USM.
"It's a special opportunity, a lot of good memories wearing the green and gold, so to be able to come back and do this, it's a real blessing," Sutton said. "It is something that I'm really, really looking forward to."
West Jones High School Principal Lynn Lyon also said he is confident Sutton is prepared for this step in his career.
"We begin a new chapter in the great tradition that is West Jones Baseball," Lyon said. "This was the most thorough hiring process that I've ever been involved in."
