Southern Miss student mourns friend lost in Orlando nightclub shooting

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - One Southern Miss student is grieving the loss of a friend who was killed in the deadly Orlando shooting early Sunday morning.

Alanna Hall participated in the Disney College Program last semester and was shocked to find out that someone close to her is now gone forever.

"My first thought was I could know all or many of the people were shot," Hall said.

Hall just got back from Orlando four days ago and immediately started worrying about her Disney family.

"At dinner, I was thinking I don't know what I would be able to do with myself if I wasn't able to account for everyone but thankfully I did and not even an hour later I found out that Jerry was missing," Hall said.

Jerry Wright, 31,  was one of the first friends she made when she started working at the Emporium gift shop at Disney World in January, and they formed a close friendship.

"It was just a friend, he was a good person to talk to," Hall said. "At this point, I was a little bit homesick and he said 'You look like you could use a drink, let's go have a margarita,' and we did and that turned into a couple," Hall said.

She found out Monday that his name was on the victim's list after Jerry Wright's brother wrote this Facebook post:

"I am finally able to post this unfortunate message. As of now everyone has heard about the shooting at pulse night club in Orlando, it is with my gravest knowledge to inform everyone that my brother Jerry Wright was at the same club when all this happened. Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes, my family has been greatly appreciative of those loving gestures. We still don't know any other information at this moment in time, please send your well wishes and prayers tonight when you have a moment to yourself or with loved ones"- from brother Jose Joseph

Hall said she still cannot believe her friend is dead.

"We lost one of our own, we are all a family at Disney World, so of course just hearing someone from Tomorrow Land is a victim is just sad," Hall said.
