JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County woman was charged with animal cruelty Tuesday after Southern Cross Animal Shelter found a dog in deplorable conditions.
According to Heather Chandler Williams with S.C.A.R. the dog was left behind when suspect Malinda Covey and her family moved.
Williams said the dog was thin, full of parasites, had a prolapsed uterus and a leg injury.
The leg was so badly injured that the dog had learned to walk on the joint, according to Williams.
According to the Jones County Sheriff's Department, Covey has pending animal cruelty charges against her.
Williams emphasized that Southern Cross is a non-profit organization that receives no funds from the city or county. If anyone would like to donate to the rehabilitation of the dog, she encourages them to visit their website.
