COVINGTON, La. (AP) - Prosecutors say a 41-year-old woman used another woman's ID to get a job in Louisiana and was quickly promoted to a senior position with a six-figure salary, but her scheme had a flaw: She couldn't do the work. District Attorney Warren Montgomery announced Friday that a St. Tammany Parish jury deliberated just 15 minutes before convicting Cindy White of Slidell of identity theft.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana's labor market showed signs of strengthening in March as employer payrolls increased sharply and unemployment ticked down. The jobless rate fell to 4.4 percent in March from 4.6 percent in February, as more people entered the labor force and more found jobs. About 95,000 Louisianans were jobless, the same as in February. The separate employer payroll survey rose by 7,000 in Louisiana in March. That's the biggest gain in years, pushing payrolls about 12,000 above year-ago levels.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Four young men have pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in the drinking death of a Louisiana State University fraternity pledge. Twenty-year-old Matthew Alexander Naquin is charged with negligent homicide in last year's death of 18-year-old Maxwell Gruver. Three others pleaded not guilty to hazing. Witnesses said Naquin forced Gruver to drink hard liquor before he died of acute alcohol intoxication with vomit in his lungs. Naquin's attorney says his client is being singled out.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Several people and groups are joining forces to promote the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta and its natural resources. The formation of the Alabama Delta Alliance was announced at a recent news conference. The group said in a statement that the alliance aims to support the region. They describe it as one of the nation's largest deltas, and one of the world's most bio-diverse bodies of water. Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the delta is "a hugely untapped resource for eco-tourism."
