HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A new summer camp at Southern Miss encourages students to use their creative juices to solve problems.
The week long STEAM camp teaches kids how to include arts with science, technology, engineering and math.
Kids from 2nd to 6th grades get to learn hands-on about designing buildings, their own water filter and city.
Biology Department Outreach Director Marks McWhorter said it's rewarding to help kids learn more about science in a fun way.
"It doesn't matter if you are going to grow up to be a scientist," McWhorter said. "If you learn the basic pieces on how scientists work in the day-to-day life, then you're going to achieve a better life later on."
The STEAM program will last for the remainder of the week and hopes to put on the same program next summer.
