PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

After three years in the making, residents of Petal now have a new place to take a walk.

The city's Parks and Recreation Department has now finished a brand new walking track located at the Friendly City Park on Hillcrest Loop between the ball fields and the skate park. The track is 10 feet wide and 1/3 of a mile in length.

It was all made possible by the city's Board of Aldermen and Forrest County Supervisor Burkett Ross, as well as Forrest General Hospital.

"It is in the middle of two complexes that we have, so parents who have kids out here practicing can also come down here and walk while they practice, and it's right beside the playground," said Petal Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Josh Young.

The walking track will officially open on Monday morning.
