Teen dies in Hub City community pool, 2nd drowning death in Forrest County 24 hours

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A young male found unresponsive in the C.E. Roy Community Center Sunday afternoon pool has died.

Juwine Hughes, 13, of Laurel was pronounced dead Monday morning at University Medical Center in Jackson, according to Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict.

Hughes was found unresponsive in the water around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler.

The child was found and taken to Forrest General Hospital and then flown to UMC in Jackson for treatment.

Benedict said the cause of death was fresh-water drowning.
