Missing 15-year-old found in Leaf River identified

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The name of a 15-year-old boy who was found in The Leaf River Sunday night has been released.

The boy has been identified as DonTarious Bowens from Hattiesburg. 

Forrest County dive teams and responders conducted a search and rescue for Bowens Sunday evening after he went missing in the Leaf River off of the Evelyn Gandy Parkway Bridge.

At 5:30 p.m. the Petal Fire Department, Hattiesburg Fire Department and Forrest County Sheriff's dive teams responded to the scene, according to Forrest County Emergency Management Director Glenn Moore.

Moore said witnesses saw Bowens go under water, but didn't see him resurface.

Responders found the teenager's body around 10 p.m Sunday night.

    A Hattiesburg man is accused of choking his wife and then leaving her at a local hospital. Hattiesburg Police responded to a local hospital in reference to the domestic assault Monday morning.  According to HPD Spokesman Ryan Moore, the victim stated her husband choked her, and then drove her to the hospital and left around 5:30 a.m. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later discharged, Moore said.
