JACKSON, MS (WDAM) - The state's largest National Guard unit is about to head to Texas for a major new military exercise.
The 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team will be leaving over the next few days to begin Multi-Echelon Integrated Brigade Training (MIBT) at Fort Hood, Texas.
The three-week exercise is designed to prepare the unit for a rotation at the Army's National Training Center in California in 2017.
"It takes a lot of people, it takes a lot of planning, it takes a lot of coordination to pull something like this off and to move this brigade from Mississippi, across Louisiana all the way into Texas is a huge undertaking," said Maj. Gen. Augustus Collins, Mississippi's Adjutant General.
The MIBT exercise will last from June 3-24.
