HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Donors came out Friday to help a local blood provider increase the blood supply for the Memorial Day weekend.
They dropped by the South 28th Avenue Donor Center of United Blood Services for an annual "Scrub for Blood" event.
Donors got free car washes from Youth Challenge cadets and free hamburgers from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
United Blood Services has been needing donations of O Negative and O Positive blood, as well as AB plasma.
"It's the right thing to do and you never know when you're going to need blood, so it's a good thing to give blood," said Dwayne McRee, a donor from Hattiesburg.
"It gives us a great feeling because there are a lot of people out there that's in need of blood," said Alex Ambeau, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
United Blood Services will also be taking donations on Memorial Day, from 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
