ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County Junior College professor thinks a new movie about the Civil War in Jones County could change some minds about the South.
Wyatt Moulds is an adjunct professor of history at JCJC and was a consultant for the film, "Free State of Jones."
It tells the story of deserters who lead a rebellion against the Confederacy.
Moulds worked with director Gary Ross on the movie.
He hopes it will show that, contrary to popular belief, there were many in the South who opposed the war.
"That is the redeeming quality of this movie," said Moulds. "The South was not monolithic, particularly here in the Piney Woods, the Piney Woods, Southeastern Mississippi. This area did not grow cotton, it grows corn and pine trees and sweet potatoes and rattlesnakes."
A new trailer for the movie was just released this week.
It opens in theaters on June 24.
