HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

College baseball teams from six states will be in Hattiesburg this week for the Conference-USA Baseball Tournament.

And that means lots of dollars will be flowing into the local economy.

Teams and fans from North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Texas and Louisiana are staying at local hotels and eating at local restaurants.

Estimates of what those visitors will spend in the Hub City range from nearly $500,000 to more than $2 million.

"This is the sixth time it's been hosted here in Hattiesburg at Southern Miss and each time there's just been a monumental impact," said Chris Rowell, general manager of Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott.

Mariano Arellano, owner of La Fiesta Brava restaurant, said, "That brings a lot of people from out of town and you see a lot of new faces in the restaurant and that's good for business."

It is the third year in a row that Southern Miss has hosted the tournament.
