LONG BEACH, MS (WDAM) -

The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

The Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus is in search of volunteers to assist with the 2016 Area III Special Olympics Summer Games Saturday, June 4 at 9 a.m. on the University’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The event, which is a precursor to the Special Olympics of Mississippi’s fall games in October at Camp Shelby, will include four games: softball, soccer, horseshoes and croquet. More than 100 athletes will be in attendance.

During the games, volunteers are asked to sign up as either a game volunteer (setup and logistics) or an athlete friend (athlete supporter). All individuals must be at least 16 years of age to assist. The event will be held near the Technology Learning Center at Gulf Park. To view a map of the campus, visit www.bit.ly/1HH3ywx.

For more information about volunteer details, or to sign up, call IDS at 228.214.3400 or visit www.usm.edu/gulfcoast/ids/volunteers.
