PEARL, MS (WDAM) - "We came together as brothers and we all wanted it. We fell short, but we made it and we shocked the state. They said we couldn't get here and we made it," Hattiesburg senior C.J. Anderson said after a heartbreaking 10-0 loss to Oxford.
Oxford, the defending 5A state champs, took home the title for the second consecutive year after Thomas Dillard hit his second homerun of the game to run rule the Tigers in the 6th inning.
Coach Hartfield admitted the Tigers did not play their best in the match, but that this year Oxford was the better team.
"Of course we have to take our hats off to Oxford, they are a very good team in every aspect," Hartfield said. "But I am extremely proud of this team, especially proud of our seniors. I think this is the best group of seniors I've had since I've been at Hattiesburg."
The Tigers were defeated on the field today, but Coach Hartfield said this years team put Hattiesburg baseball back on the map.
"We will definitely have a target on our back next season. We're ready for it."
