HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg man is behind bars in connection to a structure fire in the Hub City.

Mikel Merritt, 26, was arrested and charged with arson in the incident that authorities said occurred at 622 Clementine Avenue.

“When fire crews arrived on scene Wednesday morning, firefighters found a single family mobile home with heavy fire in the interior, and made an aggressive interior attack,” Battalion Chief Stephen Mooney said.

The fire was quickly extinguished by multiple fire crews, according to Mooney.

“With the coordinated efforts from the Hattiesburg Police Department the suspect was arrested in connection with the fire that was connected to an alleged domestic dispute just before the fire,” Mooney said.

Merritt is booked in the Forrest County Jail.
