The University of Southern Mississippi has named Dr. Richard Kravchak to the position of Director of the School of Music effective July 2016. Kravchak comes to Southern Miss from Marshall University in Huntington, W.V., where he was professor and founding director of its School of Music.
Kravchak, whose instruments are oboe and English horn, studied at The Eastman School of Music, The Julliard School and Florida State University. He is a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Schools of Music.
“I am humbled and honored to have been selected to serve as the director of the School of Music at The University of Southern Mississippi. The internationally renowned faculty at the School of Music are among the finest in the world—I look forward to working with these outstanding artists and educators in preparing musicians for the 21st century,” Kravchak said.
Kravchak has performed in ensembles, concertos and chamber music recitals around the world. He was presented with a Platinum Apple Award by United Teachers of Los Angeles, named Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Teacher of the Year, and was named a Bravo Finalist by the Los Angeles Music Center.
“I very much look forward to working with Dr. Kravchak, who brings considerable administrative experience and broad musical accomplishment to our outstanding School of Music,” said Dr. Maureen Ryan, dean of the College of Arts and Letters.
