Death investigation underway in Sumrall

SUMRALL, MS (WDAM) -

Sumrall Police are conducting a death investigation after a deceased woman was found on the porch of a home Wednesday evening.

According to Sumrall Police officials, a medical call came in just after 5 p.m. of a woman on the porch of a home at 11 Mulberry Street.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and investigators from the 15th District Attorney’s Office are assisting Sumrall Police with the investigations.

The cause of death could not be determined at this time, according to Lamar County Coroner Cody Creel.

“We will send the body off to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy to determine an exact cause of death,” Creel said. 

Sumrall Police Chief Chris Dungan said there is no reason for anyone in the community to be alarmed.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

    The campus of William Carey was calm as the clock struck midnight and the date turned to January 21, 2017. Then-freshman soccer player Taylor Gautreaux turned in at about 1 a.m. She would be awoken two hours later to the sounds of a violent tornado just outside her dorm room wall.
