HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg High School baseball team faced off with defending 5A state champs, Oxford, on Tuesday evening.
Oxford got out to a hot start posting two runs in the first inning, but the Tigers jumped right back in to it in the second inning and stole the lead back after a few errors by the Oxford defense.
Tigers stepped out to a 3-2 lead.
However, that was the last time the Tiger would hold the lead. In the third inning Oxford tied the ball game, and then went on to win it 5-3.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Tigers hit the field at Smokie Harrington Park to stay loose for Thursday's match at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
The first pitch of game two is set for 4 pm. The tigers have to pick up a win Thursday to have a shot at the title.
