C Spire hosted a block party at Ed’s Burger Joint in Hattiesburg around lunchtime Wednesday to celebrate its improvements as the fastest mobile broadband service in the city, according to a press release.
Customers, business executives and community leaders were invited to attend the event. The first 100 customers received $10 gift cards to Ed’s.
C Spire also recognized and honored athletes who will participate in the 2016 Mississippi Special Olympics. The company made a $1,500 charitable contribution at the event.
C Spire representatives were also there to discuss the improvements in the company’s reliability, speed and coverage.
“It’s clear that we are one of the leaders in speed and that our investments in spectrum and maximum range LTE have paid off here,” said Stephen Bye, CTO for C Spire, in a press release.
According to a press release, recent test results show that C Spire offers speeds in some parts of Hattiesburg ranging from 60 to 80 Mbps. If one puts 70 Mbps into context, it takes about 3.25 seconds to download a five-minute video and .4 of a second to download a four-minute song, according to Fastmetrics.com.
“We offer the only national 4G LTE+ network inspired by the customers we serve,” Bye said in a press release. “And just like our deep, local roots, our network is getting bigger, faster and stronger every day. At C Spire, we’re never content with a good network. Our customers deserve a great network and we’re never going to rest on our laurels.”
According to the Pew Center, new research has shown that many consumers rely just on mobile service via smartphones to access the web, and more than half of U.S. smartphone owners used their phones to conduct online banking, research places to live and even apply for a job.
