Inmate death at Parchman under investigation

JACKSON, MS (WDAM) - An inmate was found unconscious in his cell Friday at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Around midnight, Jasper Bell, 21, was pronounced dead at Unit 29, where he was housed alone, according to an MDOC press release.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy.

According to MDOC, Bell was serving a 35-year sentence for multiple convictions in Hinds County.

Bell was convicted of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon on educational property, armed robbery, residential burglary, carjacking and strong armed robbery.

He committed the crimes in 2010 and was sentence in January 2012, according to MDOC.
