The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

University of Southern Mississippi Police Capt. Lisa Carter has been recognized by The Hattiesburg Hundred as part of the group’s inaugural push to honor area law enforcement officers and first responders.

Carter was presented her award during the first annual ceremony held earlier this month at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg. Each year, members of the Hattiesburg Hundred will meet for an annual dinner to join with the heads of agencies who will each select an honoree from their force to receive special recognition for meritorious service.

The Hattiesburg Hundred is a non-profit organization of 100 local men who believe in supporting and honoring the dedication and commitment of local sworn officers and first responders.

Members of Hattiesburg Hundred pay yearly dues that are used to fund a savings account designated to provide immediate cash assistance to families of sworn officers in Forrest or Lamar County-- Hattiesburg Police Department, Forrest County Sheriff's Department, Hattiesburg Fire Department, University of Southern Mississippi Security Department, Forrest General Hospital Security, and Lamar County Sheriff's Department-- in their time of extreme need.
