JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A convicted felon has been charged with possession of a firearm after he tried to board a flight at the Laurel/Hattiesburg airport with a gun.

Jones County deputies were dispatched to the airport on Friday after a gun was found in Kendrick D. Holder Jr.'s carry on bag, according to a news release issued by the sheriff's department.

When authorities searched the bag a black and silver Smith & Wesson 40 caliber handgun with two rounds in the magazine was found mixed in with his clothes.

According to the release, the gun was stolen out of Lamar County.

A criminal history on Holder was run through Central Dispatch and revealed he was a convicted felon.  During Holder’s interview he stated he was sentenced to the Mississippi State Penitentiary in 2011 for possession of marijuana, and went back in 2012 on a violation.

Holder was taken into custody and charged with possession of a stolen firearm and weapon, and possession of a weapon by a felon.
