Suspect sought in an attempt to set Wayne County courthouse on fire

WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A $6,000 reward is being offered for information or tips leading to the capture of an arson suspect. 

According to Wayne County Sheriff Jody Ashley, someone attempted to set the Wayne County Courthouse on fire Sunday morning. 

Sheriff Ashley said the Board of Supervisors received a phone call about the incident around midnight. 

Authorities reported a Jack Daniels bottle full of gasoline was thrown near the tax assessor's office window.

Wayne County Fire Marshal and investigator reported to the scene immediately to find evidence of the failed attempt. 

Crime Stoppers and the Wayne County Fire Marshal are offering an award up to $6,000 for any tips or leads.

The incident is still under investigation.
