Sharp turn causes overturned logging truck

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a press release from the Jones County Fire Council.

Around 12:50 p.m. Friday, units from Soso and Calhoun Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of an overturned 18-wheeler hauling a full load of logs on Highway 28 West just outside of Soso city limits.

According to a witness who was standing on his front porch when the accident happened, the 18-wheeler came around a sharp curve and began to lose control as the weight of the logs shifted, causing the entire vehicle to turn on its side, spilling logs all over the roadway.

The driver of the truck appeared to sustain no injuries. A firefighter with Calhoun Volunteer Fire Department at the scene stated the entire road remained blocked for several hours while cleanup crews worked to remove the logs and the 18-wheeler from the roadway.

Units on scene included Soso and Calhoun Volunteer Fire Departments, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Soso Police Department, and Mississippi Department Of Transportation.

Fire Apparatus on scene included Soso Engine and Soso Tanker.
