LAUREL, MS -

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department honored fallen officers on Friday during a solemn ceremony at First Baptist Church in Laurel.

The annual Peace Officer’s Memorial Ceremony is held to pay tribute to officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

Special recognition was given to the family of Randy Chancellor, a longtime Jones County Deputy who was killed by a drunk driver in 2001.

Also honored was deputy Brent Beasley, who lost his life from natural causes in January of this year.

Sheriff Alex Hodge said that while they are remembered every day, this was a special way of remembering them.

“This is just a day that we can openly, come together and fellowship and worship and not only remember their death but also remember and celebrate their life,” Hodge said.

Keynote speaker for the event was Mike Hurst and there was a special wreath laying following the ceremony at Bethel Baptist Church.
