WAYNESBORO, MS (WDAM) -

The Waynesboro Police Department is without leadership, according to officials at city hall.

The board of alderman voted 3 to 1 to terminate acting Chief Kennedy Meaders at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

No reason was presented for his removal from the force, and officials said no replacement was appointed.

The mayor has spoken publicly about plans to veto the decision once the minutes are finalized. Meaders was hired as the assistant police chief in October 2014 and was given the title of acting chief in February.
