44 graduate from Jones County leadership programs

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of the brightest young business people and students in Jones County were honored Tuesday night as they graduated from the county's Leadership programs.

A graduation ceremony for Leadership Jones County and Future Leaders of Jones County was held The Gables in Laurel.

The programs expose participants to important issues concerning education and local and state government.

Each class also develops team projects to help the community.

"This year, we have 44 participants in the whole program," said Larkin Simpson, program coordinator. "We have 30 high school kids and we have 14 adults. We typically try to keep our juniors program around 30 kids, because it gives us a good mix from all the schools."

"When (the program is) over, they'll probably know more about Jones County than people who've lived here all along that have never had the program, but it's a wonderful program," said Dell Scoper, co-founder of Leadership Jones County.

Leadership Jones County started 26 years ago.

The Future Leaders of Jones County was created 25 years ago.
