LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A special Mother's Day breakfast was held on Tuesday at the B. E. Murph Senior Center in Laurel.
It was an opportunity for mothers of all ages to be treated with food, fun and fellowship.
The Mother's Day breakfast is held annually by the members of the group, and it is sponsored by the city of Laurel and AARP. This is the fifth year that the group has been having the special Mother's Day Breakfast.
During the event, the men from the group, served all the mothers who attended. The menu included handmade biscuits, scrambled eggs, grits, sausage and much more.
Director for the B.E. Murph Senior Center, Lula Cooley, said that it is a way of getting senior mothers out of the house and show them just how special they truly are.
"This is important because we get a chance to serve the mothers, because not all mothers are remembered but are forgotten," Cooley said. "We just wanted to spread some love and show them that they are loved and they come and sit and socialize, so that's important to us."
The group will also hold a Father's Day Breakfast where the women will serve the men. But the group is not just limited to these two events, they have educational and social activities each week.
The group is also planning a trip to Houston, Texas, later in the year.
