HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

Dr. Lisa Nored, professor and director of the University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Criminal Justice, was recently honored by the Mississippi College School of Law with its Lawyer of the Year award at the school’s annual alumni dinner.

A USM alumna, Nored holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from Southern Miss, a doctorate in public policy from Mississippi State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Mississippi College.

Lawyer of the Year is the highest honor an alumnus of Mississippi College’s School of Law can receive. The recipient is chosen from nominations of all the alumni, and then selected by the Alumni Board in consultation with the school’s dean. The award was initiated by the school in 1982 to recognize outstanding achievements of its graduates.

A native of Biloxi, Miss., Nored joined the USM Department of Criminal Justice on a full-time basis in 1999 after serving it as an adjunct instructor. She became interim chair of the department in August 2006. When the department became the School of Criminal Justice, Nored was named its director in 2009.
