JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A woman has been detained for leaving a child in her car while she was at work.

According to Laurel Police Chief Tyrone Stewart, a woman who works at Wayne Farms left her residence with three kids Friday morning. Two were her biological children, and one was the child of an acquaintance, whom she had agreed to look after.

The woman dropped her two children at school and traveled to work, apparently forgetting she had the third child. Reports say the child fell asleep in the back seat. About an hour or two later, security at Wayne Farms noticed the four-year-old in the back seat of the woman's car.

The woman was detained, but has so far not been charged. She was released pending action from a grand jury. No names have been released, but reports say the child was not harmed. Stewart also said the Mississippi Department of Human Services is involved with this case, but no children have been taken into custody.

This is a developing story and will be updated pending further details.
