HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Several women were recognized for their fundraising efforts Friday night by the Forrest County Branch of the NAACP.
It took place at the 45th annual Alice H. Burns Freedom Fund Banquet at the C.E. Roy Community Center.
One woman from a small church and another from a large church were honored for their efforts to raise funds for the chapter.
The chapter also donated $1,000 to the Hattiesburg High School forensics program, which has recently faced some budget cuts.
"We really don't want to see them get to a level where they cannot go and compete, because of the lack of money," said Clarence Magee, president of the Forrest County Branch of the NAACP. "So, we do place a lot of emphasis through our branch on education."
The banquet is the only fundraising event for the Forrest County Branch each year.
