MISSISSIPPI (WDAM) -

The newly elected Public Service Commissioner is unsealing confidential documents related to the Kemper Power Plant.

Mississippi PSC for the Southern district Sam Britton made the announcement during the Friends of the Jones County Public Libraries annual meeting.
Britton says the Public Service commission staff will be evaluating and lawfully unsealing confidential documents filed in the prior certificate case.

"The reason doing that is I believe that as open as you can have this government we should have it open,” Britton said.  “Because the fact of the matter is when this process goes in, it's there, you're going to pay for it. So if you're going to have to pay for it then you ought to have public access to whatever is there.”

The Kemper project is the largest utility expenditure in the history of Mississippi.

“There is something like 35,000 documents and they’re going through that, the companies are, to make sure that there’s not anything that really needs not to be made public,” Britton said. “But they are going to be made public.”
