HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
First-year medical students at William Carey University Friday honored those who have donated their bodies to medical science.
The Class of 2019 in the university's College of Osteopathic Medicine participated in a donor memorial service at Bass Memorial Chapel.
The students use the donated bodies to study anatomy at the Ross Anatomy Wing.
During the service, a moment of silence for the donors was held.
Individual students also spoke about the important sacrifices the donors made.
"I feel like the least we could do to commemorate everything that they've given us that will remain with us our entire lives is a memorial service to say thank you, thank you for everything you've done, thank you to the families," said Loren Touma, a medical student and president-elect of the Student Government Association.
Roses were also displayed in memory of the donors.
