Hattiesburg City Council one step closer to buying land to treat wastewater

HATTIESBURG, MS - After a special city council meeting held Thursday evening, the Hattiesburg City Council is one step closer to buying land to treat its wastewater.

Council President Kim Bradley said the council is raising water and sewage rates to help pay for the land needed for the wastewater application project. The water and sewage revenue is going to repay the $25 million debt that is being borrowed to pay for the land.

"When we do pull the trigger to succeed, we need to have within 45 days the money to pay for it, pay for that project and also pay for any land we have under contracted by," Bradley said.

Bradley said this major step is a long time coming.
